The following is general information/guidelines about the Municipal recycling program. For more specific information regarding collection days/dates please refer to the or call the Department of Community Services at 412 831-6800 x.130 |
Garbage Collection: Weekly curbside garbage collection is provided to all single-family residential homes in Bethel Park. Garbage should be placed at the curb for collection on the designated collection day no later than 7:00 a.m.
While most household disposables are accepted, the following is a list of items that will not be collected:

Collection Preparation: All garbage should be placed garbage bags or containers no larger than a 32-gallon can and should not exceed 50 lbs. Grass clipping waste should not exceed 25 lbs.
Other items requiring special preparation:
Appliances will be collected however Freon must be removed and a certification sticker must be on the item.
Carpeting and padding must be cut, rolled and tied into 4 foot pieces no larger than 16 inches in diameter. Padding must be tack free and kept dry prior to collection.
Hedge cuttings including limbs and branches not exceeding 3 inches in diameter must be cut into 36 inches in length and must be tied in bundles. Limit of 8 bundles per week will be collected.
Paint cans that are empty or containing hardened paint. Newspaper or kitty litter can be placed in the can to absorb unused paint. Lids should be removed and then placed in trash.
Recycling: Recycling of glass, plastic (#1 and #2 plastics), cans and newspaper is required. Recyclables are collected every other week on the same day as garbage collection. All items should be placed in the Recycling Bins (or other comparably sized/constructed container) provided by the Municipality and placed at the curb by 7:00 a.m. on the designated garbage collection day. All recyclables should be rinsed to remove product residue. Newspapers should be tied in bundles not exceeding 12 inches in height.
Leaf Collection: Leaf waste is collected a total of 7 times per year; 1 week in April and 6 weeks throughout the fall. The provides a calendar of collection dates. Leaves must be placed in brown paper leaf bags, which can be purchased at local hardware stores. Leaves placed in plastic bags will not be collected or dumped.
Leaf bags should be placed at the curb by 7:00 a.m. on the garbage collection day during designated leaf collection weeks.
