Local Government:

Nine members of Council and a Mayor govern the Municipality of Bethel Park in accordance with the Home Rule Charter. Each of the nine members of Council are elected by Ward and the Mayor is elected at large; all serve four-year terms. The population of the Municipality is evenly divided into the nine wards and each Council member is required to maintain residency in the Ward they are elected to represent.

The residents of Bethel Park elected a Home Rule form of Government by Charter in 1978, which resulted in Bethel Borough being renamed as the Municipality of Bethel Park. This Home Rule form of government provides the Municipality with greater powers of governance than the former Borough form of government.
