The Municipality of Bethel Park is currently in the process of updating their Comprehensive Plan.  As required by the Home Rule Charter, the Municipality updates the Comprehensive Plan every five years.

The Comprehensive Plan is a statement of the community's goals for the future and a guide to achieving those goals.  Generally, the purpose of a Comprehensive Plan is to anticipate growth and to guide that growth in a manner that provides Bethel Park with a balance of land uses that promote economic growth while retaining the quality of life.  The Comprehensive Plan provides the foundation for making changes or developing new land use regulations that implement identified goals and policies.

The Planning and Zoning Commission has been working the past 12 months with consultants from Trans Associates to prepare a Draft Comprehensive Plan Update.  The Draft Bethel Park Comprehensive Plan Update consists of two documents:  The Planning Profiles and the Policy Plan. The Policy Plan includes, among other components, a Land Use Initiatives, Physical Development Initiatives, Housing Initiatives and an Infrastructure Planning and Development Initiative.  The Planning Profiles provides background information on the various components of Bethel Park necessary to planning the future of Bethel Park.  This includes an inventory of the current and future demographics and socioeconomics, land use and housing, infrastructure, and community services and facilities.

A copy of the draft plan is available for review at the Bethel Park Public Library (Reference Desk) and on the Bethel Park Web page Policy Plan Planning Profile

A public hearing will be held prior to the Council's formal adoption of the Plan.  The Public Hearing is to be held on March 22, 2010 at 7:46 PM in the Council Chambers of the Municipal Building (5100 West Library Avenue).
